Can I Be Your Assistant on Location?

I get this question a lot, and I wish I could say yes to everyone as I like meeting enthusiastic people. Often I want to tell people that it's not as fun as it looks. I work in very cold, remote, and miserable conditions. And once there, sometimes we have to wait weeks to go under the ice and dive until we get so cold that we can no longer function.

My assistants are highly trained specialists, the best of the best of the Arctic and Antarctic. They not only have to look after themselves but need to take care of me as I'm always concentrating on my viewfinder. I have been blessed to work with several great assistants over the years: Goran Ehlme, Jeremy Stewart, Jed Weingarten, Bjorn Theodórsson, Wayne Smith, Chris Grice, Derek Crowe, Ryan Seibel, Nathan Moller, Chris Miller, and Pierre D’Amours.
